Madison Schermerhorn Signs With the Purdue Boilermakers

West Noble’s Madison Schermerhorn will continue her athletic and academic career at Purdue University next fall with Coach Dave Shondell’s volleyball team.  The 5’10” Schermerhorn will go to Purdue as a Defensive Specialist/Libero.  Schermerhorn has helped lead the Chargers to a 107-34 record the last 4 seasons which have included 2 sectional championships, 2 NECC tourney Championships and 1 NECC league championship.  Madison also managed to spike a school record 1571 kills while also amassing 1014 digs for the Chargers.  She was also recently named to the IHSVCA and ICGSA 1st team all state squads.  Madison will study Elementary Education for the Boilermakers while someday hoping to be involved in coaching volleyball as well.

Being a Boilermaker has long been a dream of Madison’s.  She is hoping to help the Boilermakers continue to be one of the nation’s premier volleyball programs.  Purdue is currently ranked 12th in the country and plays in the incredibly talented Big Ten Conference.  Madison has continued to play three sports (Basketball,Track) at West Noble while training with Jay Golsteyn’s  Impact Volleyball Club in Fort Wayne three times a week during club season.

Madison said, “I am so thankful for all of my teammates and coaches who have helped me realize my dream of playing for Purdue’s Volleyball team.  I have really enjoyed getting to know the coaches and players at Purdue.  I have met all of my future teammates and I am excited for what the future holds for our team.  It really has been a dream come true and playing with my friends growing up has made it somewhat of a fairy tale for me.  I will miss West Noble and am so thankful for what the school and community have done for our volleyball team.”

West Noble volleyball coach Kaija Kauffman is looking forward to see her former player at Purdue. “I am so happy for Maddie, she has worked hard and this has always been her goal.  She will do great at Purdue and I am excited to watch them play.”

Impact Volleyball Club Director Jay Golsteyn was equally complementary of Madison.  “Madison is a hard worker and so competitive.  It is great to see a kid work so hard and have the success that she has.  She is definitely one of the best players that I’ve ever coached in all my years of High School and Club.”

Madison will enroll at Purdue in the summer with the hopes of getting started with her volleyball training as soon as possible.  Madison is the daughter of Tom and Dee Dee Schermerhorn.  Congratulations Madison and we are proud of you!
